In the early days of European settlement, Aboriginal people were often treated as slaves by the colonists, who used them for forced labor on their farms and properties.

This area was once a large property owned by Governor Arthur Phillip, who used it to grow crops and raise livestock. But he didn’t just rely on European workers – he also employed many Aboriginal people as slaves.
These slaves were forced to work long hours every day, performing hard labor such as plowing fields, harvesting crops, and herding animals. They lived in terrible conditions, with little food or shelter, and were often punished if they didn’t meet their quotas or tried to escape. The women were also subjected to sexual abuse by their European masters.
Despite the fact that slavery was officially abolished in Australia in 1838, it’s believed that there were still many Aboriginal people who were kept as slaves until well into the late 19th century. This dark chapter of Australian history is not widely taught or acknowledged, but it’s important to remember and learn from these stories so that we can prevent such injustices from happening again in the future.
